March 30, 2020
Women4Yemen Network, within the Group of Nine, carried out two workshops in Marib and al-Mukalla governorates on " Political Participation of Yemeni Woman and her Role in Peacebuilding" on March, 27, 28 and aimed at addressing the major challenges for gender equality and what can be done to overcome them.
The workshops supported by UN Women and funded by the Japanese Government in cooperation with the Tajdid Iraq Foundation and in coordination with the Office of Labour and Social Affairs in Marib and Alamal Women's and Sociocultural foundation in al-Mukalla.
Participants stressed the significance of clear strategies and plans which strengthen women's role at all areas.
Aden Saleh Fehidan, a female activist in HOCO organization said that studies confirm that there are fears that the reality will be reflected on women's participation after the conflict. The achievements of women on the political level might be weakened and reached zero participation unless we encouraged their participation more at all levels.
Abha Baoudan, the president of Alamal Socio-cultural Feminism Foundation mentioned that Yemeni women's participation in peace talks is low, and sustainable peace and justice can be achieved by women's participations.
The workshop conclusions stressed the need to tackle the cultural, social, and political barriers impeding women’s effective participation in peace operations and political participation.
